Blessed be Wildlings! Today's edition of Den Craft is going to discuss 5 different ways that I personally incorporate magick into my day to day life with very simple practices and behaviors. If you enjoy this piece and are interested in more magickal ways of life, I also suggest reading one of my previous posts, 5 Simple Magicks for Home and Self.
There are a lot of ways to make day to day living more magickal and spiritually intuitive. This can greatly help bolster one's confidence as a witch or spiritual practitioner, and is one of the ways I help counteract my natural anxiety! The routine and regularity of a healthy habit just really can't be beat.
Ready to learn more? Let's go!
1. Earthing/Grounding
Earthing and grounding are somewhat different principles, but are similar enough that they have been grouped here. Earthing is the process of surrounding ourselves with beautiful natural objects that enhance our physical experience, create a feeling of connection to the abundance and loving nature of the universe, and help us feel more comfortable and present within reality. Grounding is the process of releasing and receiving energies from the earth, which helps us feel more secure and present within reality. Both are practices that help connect us to Gaia or mother earth (a very powerful, ancient, and loving spirit), as well as the overall loving, prosperous, and nurturing aspects of the universe itself, and both help us escape thought patterns or uncomfortable mental spaces to exist wholly in our present moment.
Objects that come from nature are especially helpful in earthing. Many practitioners simply do their earthing in an outdoor space or garden. However you choose to go about finding your earthing space and objects is, like much of the craft, entirely up to you.
I personally use a combination of both. By bringing in beautiful objects from outside, and curating my inner spaces to have at least one Gaia-made item in them, I bring the grounding and nurturing energies of the earth into my home. Because of my small space, I also often arrange some natural items nearby a handsome tree or nearby plant wherever I happen to be staying for the time, so that there is a lovely outdoor space for me to look at when I feel the need.
In addition to gazing at and meditating on the energies of the beautiful objects I have brought into my home, I go on at least one long walk every day. This is when I find most of my earthing objects, and is also a wonderful time to allow the negative energy to leave my body as I walk. It also goes without much explanation that physical activity is good for me!
Grounding is much more effective if you can get away with not wearing shoes. Five to ten minutes a day of barefooted contact with the earth is an easy and practical way to help bring more magick and balance into our lives.
As you ground, envision your negative energy slipping into the cool darkness of the earth. Also imagine golden, sparkling light moving up from that darkness and into you, replenishing your body and spirit with loving mother earth energy. If you don't use meditation or visualization in any other way in your practice, grounding is definitely the one to try and integrate.
2. Food and Food Blessings
It may just be the Virgo in me, but I love food, and think it is one of the easiest and best places to integrate simple intention and magick, mostly because we eat food one to several times a day. The type of food we eat, and the energy used in preparing and making it, are very easy things to integrate into our day to day lifestyle to help create magick in the ordinary. Even if you do not personally cook, pre-prepared food can also be blessed and planned around in a magickal way.
Whether you choose a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle or maintain an omnivorous diet, the foods you consume should be as fresh and low processed as possible. The more times a food item is processed, cooked, or altered from its original condition, the less nutrition it contains, and the more likely it is to contain energies and chemical compounds that are harmful to our bodies.
I strongly recommend locating markets and groceries that sell local produce and goods. Farmer's markets are a good choice, as are local owned groceries, and even some major grocery chains host local products on their shelves. While the food sold at these places may be slightly more expensive, it is also very likely to be much higher quality. And, in the instance of animal products, the animals in question were probably well treated, and had a good quality of life - something that cannot be said for animals raised in stockyards or other mass production complexes. Most farmers and local operations are also very open to showing you around their operation, if you have any concerns about the products.
I personally adhere to an omnivorous circadian diet (circadian systems or functions utilize the 24-hour period of the day to regulate themselves). This means that I eat a wide variety of foods, but only certain foods during certain parts of the day. From the time I wake up until 11 am, I only eat fruit or drink tea, water, or coffee. After 11 am, I eat breads or raw vegetables. And, after 3 pm, I can eat whatever cooked meals I want! I don't always precisely follow these guidelines (I have a very active metabolism, and sometimes I genuinely need calories or protein earlier on in the day), but I do my best, and I have had a good experience with it. It helps me make sure I am eating a proper balance of types of food, and has greatly improved my overall energy level, as a result.
In addition to monitoring when and what I eat with my spiritual health in mind, I also bless each meal or snack I make. I thank and give gratitude energetically to all the people who helped this meal come into fruition. This includes farmers, tractor trailer drivers, and grocery workers, to name a few! In addition, I give thanks to mother Gaia for providing this sustenance. I ask for her blessing so that it may nourish me, maintain my health, and increase my strength.
If I happen to be cooking, I also add a bit of kitchen magick. I add spices using the guidance of my higher self and ancestors, from the specific amounts to types to use (with absolutely delicious results! It has been very empowering to me in regards to feeling connected to my team). While stirring the food, I will intentionally stir it three times counter-clockwise to clear away negative energy, and then stir it immediately after three times in a clockwise direction to imbue it with some positive attribute, such as healthfulness or taste. Repeat as needed or desired!
3. Gratitude
Gratitude, to self, others, spirit, and deity, can be one of the more simple and powerful ways to add magick to the day to day. From coming up with your own magickal mantras to give thanks with, to the art of gathering our focus and intention around thanks as we give thanks, there is great magick and personal power to be had in thankfulness.
Think about the times in the past that someone has expressed genuine gratitude towards you for your kindness or deeds. Didn't it feel good? Didn't it make you love yourself that much more? Didn't it make you feel closer to that person, being, or thing, even if only in that moment? When we experience and express gratitude, we also inspire this feeling in others.
In finding and feeling thankfulness, we are experiencing love for whatever has inspired that feeling in us. Not only are we receiving love in the form of something that makes us happy, but we are giving it, by reflecting to the source of the gratitude the effect its loving condition. In this way, showing gratitude strengthens relationships: with actual beings, and the energies represented by what we are thankful for.
4. Mindfulness
Mindfulness is the act of remaining aware of our actions, emotions, surroundings, and thoughts. By being more mindful of the world around us, and ourselves, we become more receptive to the moments in which we are experiencing magick, miracles, or truly wonderful things. We are also more aware of the moments which using magick or various spiritual tools can improve our experience.
Being mindful is a form of active meditation, and is in and of itself a spiritual or magickal act. As such, it requires mental energy, and it is not easy to do all day long! It may even be difficult to learn to actively practice at first, especially if we are not naturally mindful people.
Everyone, however, is easily led astray by chaotic action around us, our own emotions, or wasteful thoughts. Learning to be mindful during every moment of every day is a process that pretty much everyone you know (I promise you!) is still learning how to do. All that matters is that you are trying your best to carefully monitor yourself as you are in the world around you. There are a number of posts in the Wisdom of Three series here in the Bard's Corner that may be helpful to you in reaching constant mindfulness:
5. Relevant Blessings
Blessed be! I say it here and on social media often, as do others. But did you know that this simple greeting is an act of intentional magick? By focusing our intention around the phrase, and truly wishing those who are met with it to be blessed, so they will be.
Another common turn of phrase that you may hear is "so mote it be," following someone's declaration of desire of a positive affirmation. This, like blessed be, is a small verbal spell, which provides a small push of energy in favor what ever is being blessed.
What phrases you use, or how you bless, is entirely up to you. I have personal blessings for my pets and loved ones. I have small blessing rituals for my teas and coffee. I bless nature. I bless people I encounter in real life that are struggling or seem in need.
Every time we connect to our inner power and extend it outwards, we are living a magickal moment. It also helps build and maintain our ability to do larger and more complicated magick work when needed! This makes blessings an excellent practice for anyone looking to get in a bit of extra magick practice during their day to day life, or who is just starting out on their magickal path.
