5 Reasons to Work with Faeries

Updated: Aug 10, 2020

Continuing with Faerie Friday, we're on reasons to work with the Fae! Having covered the basis of where my faerie discussions come from, why we maybe would be better off avoiding them, and some good facts to be armed with, to boot, I think everyone is safely versed enough to begin thinking to themselves, "Yes, I think that completely insane idea sounds perfectly sane, after all." Let's begin, shall we?

1. They are interested in you, already.

Unfortunately, a desire to work with the Fae does not mean they will consent to giving you the time of day. They take an interest in very specific people, and if you are not already one of those people, it is unlikely you'll attract the attention of much more than the most manipulative and base of faeries, if any at all.

Some signs the faeries are already present in your life are orbs or an unusual rate of God Ray or light activity in your day to day perception of the world, and photographs you take. I personally remember seeing and interacting with faerie orbs, both inside and out, as some of my earliest memories. Finding marbles, keys, gemstones, feathers, and other small objects, especially in places inside your home, or directly in the middle of paths, are other clear signs of faerie activity. Having the sensation that birds and animals not only listen to you, but hear and understand what you are saying, even so far as doing exactly what you have asked them to in a rather uncanny way, pretty much ensures you are talking to a fae (or at least something with a faerie in it's ear). Hearing bells or alluring voices calling your name can also indicate the presence of fae. Lastly, seeing an uncanny number of faces in natural objects, such as trees, foliage, flowers, and clouds can be an indication of a natural ability to see through gnomish magick. It is very rare, if ever, to see a faerie that didn't intend to be seen!

Because faerie are very hard to be rid of once they've attached to us, the presence of many fair folk in your life is usually a good sign that you should learn to be safe while working with them. Like me, we seem to be working with them whether we like it or not!

Why they are interested in who they are interested in is some matter of contest, but I think it has a lot to do with a person's capacity to channel and use esoteric information and energy. A lot of people simply don't have strong enough pineal glands to handle long term faerie relationships without going mad.

2. A love of nature and natural balance.

As stewards and keepers of nature and natural order, the faeries are good companions for those who are also naturally inclined to helping overcome the current imbalance that humanity has on the natural state of our planet. Whether you are an active eco-advocate or someone who just loves growing plants, working with faeries can be as greatly helpful to you as you will be to them.

Knowing how to create and foster spaces that are inviting to faeries when hoping to garner their assistance and friendship in your green projects is important. In my home, there is an effort to avoid wrought iron and other toxic faerie metals (except for very specific and practical uses, of course), as well as various spaces and objects made available to my friends that lend to their comfort. Candles, house plants, rocks, sustainable or naturally harvested furs and animal products, and other small details go a long way in making our spaces more welcoming and overall homey for our ethereal friends.

3. You live in a secluded, natural place.

Because of the nature of where you are - nature - you are very much surrounded, my friend. It would be good to learn to be a good neighbor and steward, so you don't wind up offending the gnomes, dryads, and naiads native to your local area. Even if they are not naturally interested in you, you have now set foot into a realm of the world that is more wild than it is human. They have a lot of power here!

It is common belief in Druidic lore that trees channel the magick of the world and help maintain the ley lines that hold the nine realms together as one. Living among these literal portals between realms places you amidst faerie space. As they old saying goes, better safe than sorry!

A bit of research about the local faerie lore in your area should yield good results about what to look out for, but the most common faeries out in nature are nature spirits. These faeries have one motivation: to maintain the health of the land. If you assist them in their goals, you will live in harmony with them. If you harm the natural health of the land, however, you'll likely find yourself being badgered and stolen from, and maybe worse. Not all faeries are "good," remember?

4. You are disconnected from your ancestral heritage or history.

As finders of lost things, the faeries would love to help you reconnect to your roots, especially if you work with faeries native to your ancestral lands. Most of my recommendations here directly involve my work and study of European and Irish faeries, but there are "fairy tales" in nearly every culture across the world for a reason!

Between their near timelessness and knack for finding, the fae are incredibly good at reconnecting us to our lost heritage and roots, from my experience. Working together with my guides has allowed me to guide myself much deeper into the Wildwood than I was able to when I was researching without their help.

My family, like many European Caucasian families, very likely followed a pagan religion until the rise of Christianity. Having never felt very connected to the Christian God and the messages of the Bible, being able to reconnect with my deeper, more fulfilling ancient roots in Celtic paganism has been greatly healing. I know I'd never have made it this far without my Sidhe friends! They assure me they'd love to help any and everyone capable of channeling it to reconnect to the old, lost magick.

5. An inexplicable or uncontrollable desire to know more.

While it is very likely, in this instance (especially if you don't "see" faerie signs otherwise), that you have been faerie-charmed, knowing more about them and your current circumstance can't hurt. As is commonly said, we are very often drawn towards the things that are most important for us to know or learn about that time, and so, by all means, follow your heart! Just follow it with an air of caution, especially considering your subject manner.

Being faerie-charmed is, ultimately, not the end of the world, so don't panic! Whether you've accidentally signed a contract, accidentally given them your blood, hair, or name, or stepped into a fairy ring unwittingly, I personally don't believe a single thing happens without purpose or reason. This is, for whatever soon to be revealed reason, for your better good and spiritual development.

It's important to remember when studying and working with the faeries to be very objective, and aware that there is very little they enjoy as much as a good joke. Some will even go so far as to try and keep information from us as we study or work with them, or to feed us misinformation in an attempt to get a good laugh out of our foolishness. If you are often called "naive," or told you are easily fooled, but still are feeling drawn to this path, please find someone experienced to help you in your journey before proceeding any further. Your childish, innocent nature is likely why they have taken an interest in you or drawn you towards this line of research. While I do not wish to discourage you, but I do absolutely want to make sure everyone is safe!
