Ansuz: Wodin
Meaning: Divine Aid, Divine Communication, Inspiration, Knowledge, Maturity, Teaching
Affirmation: I see and I know.
Associations: Divine Masculine, Odin
Ansuz is the rune of Odin. It embodies, not surprisingly, the energies of seeking Divine wisdom through the act of learning and teaching, as well as through direct divine connection. This rune can also be used to connect to the masculine energy of Odin, or can indicate a person who is Odin-like: a wise leader, kind but firm, with ability to conquer with a word as surely as his sword. It's also a good way to channel the energy of Odin to become more Odin-like, ourselves.
Anyone who is walking the Fool's path, another way to describe a spiritual growth journey, is seeking the energies of Ansuz. We are striving to align with the One-Eyed God, who knows and understands all the secrets and mysteries of the universe. To become so wise, we have to first accept that we know nothing at all. We have to fully invert and upright ourselves once again, forfeiting our power and vision to the powers of the universe itself, in order to return to our feet, truly seeing what there is to see.
When I observe Ansuz, the first thing I notice is that it very closely resembles Fehu. I think that this is not accidental, as learning to find balance and understanding of what Ansuz offers allows us to garner the most from Fehu's energies. We also learn and practice the lessons of Ansuz through the many attributes that Fehu provides, as it is a rune that supports physical essences and rewards so strongly. Determination and gut instinct are also very important when following and seeking Divine guidance, as is the bravery and fortitude necessary to follow the guidance that is given. While Fehu builds from the ground up, as its shape suggests, Ansuz builds from the Divine down.
I also see Uruz, that, like Fehu, instills the natural instincts needed to seek out what our intuition is guiding us towards. Maintaining a connection to our more primitive or elemental aspects is important, as it allows us to remain motivated towards the things that will be the most carnally (or physically) fulfilling to our spirit within this physical realm. Uruz also provides a lot of the powerful and very earthly magick of Ansuz, that, unlike other Divine Masculine runes within the Elder Futhark, such as Ingwaz, has a very human or mortal feeling to its energy.
Like all runes, Ansuz also contains Isa. Isa in Ansuz represents, to me, the unchanging (or so slowly changing that they are unchanging to you and I) truths of the universe that the Divine use to guide us towards enlightenment. While there are literally endless paths to these truths, they are steadily true, making them destinations to arrive to.
Lastly, I see Kenaz. Kenaz is the illumination needed to see our desires and to receive inspiration from spirit, as well. It also allows us to be able to reflect our new light, or wisdom and knowledge, out into the world, so that we can become the energy of Ansuz for others around us - especially in regards to matters of the spirit.
Today's spread is called "Five Omens," and asks what five signs we should keep an eye out for as we attempt to manifest something or make our way towards a goal or promised reward. It is one of many spreads asking the energies of Ansuz to reveal various in-depth energies through spreads that are usable with either tarot tools or the runes themselves that will be featured in my upcoming book, Runic Wisdom! If you enjoy this spread, please let me know below, or feel free to tag me on Instagram, or use one of the following hashtags: #RunicWisdom or #RunicWisdomAnsuz.
