Laguz: Let It Flow

Laguz: Water

Meaning: Dreams, Emotion, Love, Memory, Psychic Ability, the Soul Affirmation: I am free to flow where my heart desires. Associations: Astral Projection, Bodies of Water, Collective Consciousness

Laguz flows and ripples like a halcyon sea beneath an eclipsed moon. At times, it's deceptively deep, while at others, it seems endlessly deep, but only stands inches tall in truth. Light is refracted and divided, multiplied or swallowed, all depending on the surface of the water, and its depths. Like water, Laguz can distort or hide the truths deep within its energies, and this perspective is largely dependent on the state from which the subject within Laguz's waters is viewed.

Laguz is often associated with astral projections, dreams, and memory because of its water-like nature. These realms or spaces are very fluid in nature, with no logical linear function. We can move from a memory of our early childhood, into a memory of yesterday, and then back again to middle school. We can travel in our dreams from the inside of a building out into the starry void of space. With astral projection, the limitations are, quite literally, those your own willpower and thoughts impose on you.

Master of the emotions and soul, Laguz is from where unconditional love flows and returns. It is also from its watery space that we can channel psychic or magick power. This is because it allows us to draw directly from the Divine Feminine or Mother source energy, from which emotion and psychic essence flow, as well as the collective consciousness of Spirit itself.

When I look at Laguz, I see Isa and Kenaz. Isa represents the inner balance and perception needed to properly navigate the waters of Laguz. Without a steady center or strength of self, it is very easy to be washed one way or the other by the often strong waves that emotion can generate. In a similar but psychic sense, Isa asks us to be able to find our center, so that we are not led astray or manipulated by spirit, or by the willpower and desires of others. Being able to allocate our truth amidst the ebb and flow of emotions in our lives is a very key aspect in knowing Laguz's wisdom.

Isa also allows us the ability to build various emotional, moral, and social structures around us that help us to channel and control the sometimes overly abundant or chaotic energies of Laguz. Without these structures, our emotions or psychic abilities can become overwhelming or out of our control. While it is not possible to fully control the mighty power of Laguz, taking efforts to channel it's potent energies are certainly to our benefit, as Isa is happy to profess!

Kenaz, in a similar sense, really enforces that we must consciously reflect on ourselves, and how our inner light is perceived by the world around us. We must be loving, but not be taken advantage of. We have to know what we are feeling in order to find balance within it. And, through knowing what we are feeling, we gain deeper wisdom and insights into who we are. I also feel that Kenaz, also a rune of magick and spirit, helps bolster the ties between Spirit and Laguz.

Laguz is an exceptional rune totem for psychic or magick workers, as a result, especially when paired with other runes that channel magick energy, such as Kenaz or Ansuz. It is also a wonderful rune for those seeking to recover from emotional traumas, or who are working through disorders such as depression or anxiety! This is because Kenaz also adds the energies of Hope to the flow of Laguz.
