Weekday Magick: Monday and the Moon

Did you know that the days of the week are named for different deities and celestial bodies? This factoid has been a very useful tool in my craft, and also has helped me deepen my connection with my ancestral Gods. In this mini series, I'll be sharing a bit of information about each day of the week, and it's stellar and divine counterparts.

The days of the week that we know commonly know around the world are based on a combination of Hellenistic astrology - or what we know as the Greek pantheon - as well as the Old English names that the days were known by among the Anglo-Saxon people. Each day was associated with a Greek god, who was also associated with a planet, and has been either named for that planet, or the Old English deity associated with it's Anglo name. This combination was caused by the meeting and melding of the English and Latin speaking worlds throughout the course of ancient history, and has since remained unchanged!

Monday's name is Hellenistic in origin (Moon-day), and is named for the Moon or the Goddess Selene. Probably without saying, its celestial counterpart is the Moon. As such, it can be associated with any Moon deity, or the Moon itself! In hermetic alchemy, the Moon is associated with the element silver.

Monday is an especially good day for most magick work. From cleansing to ritual to prayer, the Moon rules all things mystical and magick, and her blessing is added to these tasks when done on these days. While other days are better for specific spells, Monday is a great day for general manifestation, cleansing, curses and blessings, spells revealing illusions or breaking down false fantasies, or for when you just really need the Queen of Magick on your spell's side!

Monday is also a very good day to take on shadow work and introspection, or to connect with our spirit guides and ancestors, as the Moon helps us connect to the spirit realm. Divination and other similar psychic arts are usually amplified by Moon-day energies as well. It's an especially powerful day to hone your skills in an esoteric art of any kind.

Moon events that fall on Mondays are especially potent and powerful, and you will find that more Full Moons fall on Mondays than you'd think! By pairing moon events with Moon-day energy, you can get a lot of bang for your buck, so to speak.

What sort of work and energy do you associate with Mondays? How do you use celestial magick in your practice? Let me know in the comments below!
