Wisdom of Three: Being True to Self

Who am I? You ask yourself. It's something we should all know, right? But, if you are like me a few years ago, you can't answer that question, at least not from your newfound center, as meditation and spiritual practice have taught you to find. You can answer who you think you are, based on the ideas and perceptions placed on you by yourself others. But that isn't really who you are, is it?

Working with the imagery of the triple circle is very helpful in visualizing the flow of energy in and out of our perception of self, and why it is very important to spend time, not only evaluating what is "true" to ourselves, but also how to reaffirm those truths by implementing into our realty.

Who you truly are radiates from the center point of Self, which is composed of your actions, dreams, and thoughts. These energies pass through the energies of the physical world, which, in the case of your self image, is most strongly effected by the cultural and familial desires that surround you. Those energies in turn integrate with ancestral and karmic energies that further surround your present Self, before moving back through to the Self.

Without a strong, centered Self, it is easy for your personal truth to be over-ruled by the world's perception of who you are and should be. If you have too strongly or wrongly enforced who you are, however, it may be difficult to integrate with the communities around us (even our Soul Family, if we are lucky enough to have met them), especially if who are trying to express ourselves as does not match up with the overall perception of who we have been previously. Either way, individuals without a developed and healthily fortified sense of Self may often find themselves doing things solely based on the fear of not fitting in, being manipulated or victimized by others, in regular conflict with their surroundings, feeling depressed or misunderstood, or worse.

Because of the pressure of the spiritual and physical realities that surround who we are, it is very important to be true to yourself. This will not only adjust, over time, the type of people you surround yourself with, but also your overall energies as a whole, reshaping how others perceive you. By reinforcing your personal truth in a healthy and affirmative way, you will be reshaping the energies around you to match your inner desires, rather than the whims and wants of the world around you.

Learning to be more authentic to yourself is a matter of first learning to balance your emotional and spiritual needs so that they are expressed in your physical world in a healthy and free way. This involves letting go of any shame or fear we may have of exposing our truth to the world. These negative feelings that we (myself, included) often associate with the "true us," are understandable, but must be overcome. Though the truth of who we are can often be met with resistance from those around us, standing by ourselves in a way that is empathetic to both ourselves and whoever we are having a conflict with is a pivotal part of self love, and finding true happiness in life.

Acting from your center of truth is easy to do - or so I hear, at least, once you find it. As I myself am along the way to learning to be fully centered, I know from experience that it is easy to be shaken or distracted from who you know you are by external influence. When we are, the result can be a bit explosive, weepy, or otherwise messier than we would really like them to be. For me, anyway, this has only intensified my drive to further align with who I am.

I, for one, I'm really tired of letting people get under my skin so much!

Thankfully, there are steps that we can all take to get ourselves better in touch with our Higher Self. The most important of these (and boy, will you get tired of hearing this in my content!) is grounding and meditation. I think it is seconded by journal keeping, or some form of keeping track of what we discover during our spirit work, as well as how what we implement ultimately plays out in our life. The third thing that I think is very important in this task is learning to work with your inner child, who is found in your heart center.

While grounded and in a meditative state, ask your heart about things that you have felt drawn to during the day. The things that are the most inspiring or rouse the most desire in you to seek out are likely the most strongly correlated with who you truly are. Your inner child can also help you reaffirm these passions: did you desire this as a child, for one? Does it make you feel curious and young at heart again? Anything that motivates us to seek out new and joyful experiences in life is worth pursuing in this regard.

As you discover these new truths about yourself, pay attention to the ones that easily assimilate themselves into your body of knowledge or skill sets. Don't pay so much attention to how the people around you react to these new endeavors, especially if they have a negative or adverse reaction. Don't worry if who you think you need to become is someone completely different from who you are now or have ever been before. If it makes you genuinely happy and isn't hurting anyone, you're on the perfect path!

My awakening to who I truly am has lead me towards the esoteric arts, for instance, and that has not always been popularly received by the people around me, including some that I love and trusted the most. While I have not always been able to resist the doubts and fears of others from impacting my vision of myself, I am learning to better see that how others view my journey only truly effects my journey if I let it. What matters most is this: I have always been drawn to this path. I had many tools incidentally, having collected them out of sole instinct. Most importantly, it brings me a lot of joy and fulfillment. At the end of the day, who I am becoming resonates so much more with me than the dismissal or disapproval of others does.

That is what the truth feels like! It sets you free from the doubts, opinions, and wants of others, and allows you to pursue a life that is fulfilling to you, the one living it. So, what are you waiting for? Let's getting living, together!

Affirmation:

I hold my lantern of Truth aloft for all to see, and all who walk with me are guided by its light.
