Wisdom of Three: Dreams

Continuing on the theme of Self from the past couple of weeks, today's entry of the Wisdom of Three discusses our Self center in relation to dreams, and how dreams affect and are affected by the various other aspects of reality, as well. If you are like me, dreams hold a special place of interest for you, especially because they can, at times, precede major life events, or allow us to interact with others in a place that is a bit less hectic and restrained by time than the real world. Even if they have no prophetic or mystical value to you, dreams are widely considered to be incredibly useful self analysis tools.

Our dream worlds are often times mirrors (albeit, a bit fun house style) of our physical and mental realities. Learning to see how dreams interact across the various layers of the triple circle has helped me piece together what sort of place or interaction I am having while dreaming. This was not always easy before I developed this system, and, even now, is occasionally challenging, especially considering the immaterial nature of dreams themselves.

To begin, we will start in the center circle of Self, as usual:

After a lot of reading, meditation, and a bit of astral exploration in the dream realm, I personally have concluded that the center circle, the Self, is where the dream place is primarily rooted. It makes a lot of sense according to modern science and spiritual theory, as well, which both claim that our dream worlds are reflections of our inner thoughts and feelings, and our reaction to real world events.

Most of us have "regular" or "reoccurring" dream spaces. I feel (and lots of dream analysis experts, too!) that these spaces are reflections of various core centers in your personality, as well as your overall spiritual and mental health. For me, for instance, I have several wooded areas and clearings, a house, a school, and a city that are places I consider to be reflections of my mind or Self. While these places have changed and evolved as I have, they have always remained in similar placement to one another, and have never changed so much that they are unrecognizable from what they began as - thank goodness, or I'd never know how to get around in there! Another key factor in these spaces is that I can easily and logically move from one space to the other, because they are joined together, much like real world landscapes and landmarks.

These are probably the primary, defining factors for spaces that are your own, and belong in your rooted, Self dream space: they mirror real world spaces, at least in so far as how they are placed and function, and they are spaces that we have returned to for most of our lives. If you find yourself somewhere disconnected from your core spaces, or that is very odd or "unreal," especially if that place is unusual or new, you are likely not in your Self center. Of course, some of us have incredibly unusual dream spaces to begin with, so, please take that term lightly! Normal or unusual in this instance simply means what is normal or unusual for you as an individual.

Your Self spaces are where your Higher Self, spirit guides, ancestors, and soul mates will contact or interact with you on the most regular basis, from my experience. For some of my guides, there are particular regions and spaces that I will find them in. On occasion, one of my guides will lead me to a new area, or point out a new region or facet of a space I haven't noticed before, which is always very fun and exciting!

In addition to our regular Self spaces, there are also spaces that our Self is presenting to us based off of input from the real world. From my experience, these dreams occur in unusual spaces that are not entirely unrealistic, and can become semi-permanent, if the physical things they represent are fixtures in our real worlds. They can also, albeit rarely, be shared spaces, especially with those who are close to the real world situation the dream space and scenario represents.

These spaces, however, are not directly connected to your Self center. You will find that, if you attempt to travel to the perimeter of these spaces, that the perimeter either loops back into the center of the new space, or does not seem to exist at all. I have occasionally been able to travel to and from these spaces to my Self center through what I will call, "highways," or "rail lines." While they are not literally roads, they are road like connections through which our spirit is channeled safely through, much like our bodies when we travel in vehicles.

As such, walking, or as much as we can walk in dreams, anyway, is not possible between these spaces. I think this is mostly because, while we are in these spaces being projected to us by our subconscious, we are meant to procure the lesson or information about a real world situation from that particular space. Dreams that take place in the Self center, on the other hand, more often represents our inner world, and the overall order of our individual spirit. As we have learned in previous editions of Wisdom of Three, the Self is actually a composite of the Self, reality, and spirit. Creating these reality based spaces in your dreams is just one of your Higher Self's many ways of maintaining balance and overall health, and helping us to make deeper sense of what is ongoing in our physical worlds.

There are also Spirit spaces in the dream world, which are by far the strangest locations I've ever found myself in. This is the space from which spirits and ancestors enter our dream spaces. That they can find our private dream spaces, when they do, is a testament to either the strength of the spirit that has found you, or the strength of the spiritual tether that binds you. To dream of a spirit in your Self space is indicative of a very deep connection with that spirit, and is not to be ignored. It often indicates a soul contract or otherwise important spiritual tie that should be noted and respected.

Dreaming of spirits in spirit spaces, however, is relatively normal, especially if you are exploring the dream world beyond your personal spaces (the Self center, and projections of your physical world surrounding them). The key here is that these spaces will feel very "wild," or unpredictable, and will not be likely to be spaces you recognize.

Hekate's spirit space, from my experience, for example, is a blank, black void, in which she appears illuminated in silver light and in her triplicate form, holding a torch in each hand, with black wolves surrounding her. When I met the Goddess here, there was also a distant full moon surrounding her center self's head like a halo. When she speaks in this place (or any, for that matter), she does not have a true voice, like some spirits I've encountered. It just is. A knowing of what she wishes to impart fills you. We have met in my own dream space gardens each time since, however, and so I cannot affirm that this is always the case.

Other spaces I've encountered that are not so unusual it's nearly impossible to describe them are collective community spaces. These are spiritual representations of the collective perspective of any community of its community in dream form. These representations are, quite honestly, while I'll never live long in a large city, and why I'm glad to be out of a small, gossipy town! Large city spaces often seem colorless, dilapidated or poorly up-kept, and the spirits there are tired or aggressive. Small towns, like the one I recently moved from, have everyone's houses butted up wall to wall with each others. You can look into your neighbor's window from your kitchen table, and, believe me, they do.

The Spirit space is relatively malleable, as far as I can tell, and is altered based on the consciousnesses (and their overall strength of will) that enter them. There are large spaces of this region of the dream place that seem to be collective in energy, while others are ruled by particular energies, deities, or beings, such as the space that Hekate appeared to me in. Navigating between these spaces with any semblance of logic is not as easy as in the inner circles, for a few reasons. I think the primary one is, quite simply, that it is a very complex network to try and travel. Its channels seem faster and much more sensitive than those leading out to our projected reality spaces. Moving from one to the other is more a matter of, firstly, knowing where you intend to go or what sort of space you want to create, and secondly, actually maintaining your intent and will to make it there.

To be honest, I move through these spaces in a very touristic and unintentional manner. I also don't visit them very often, unless intentionally called or drawn out into them. This is mostly because my encounters with "dark" or "malevolent" energies in this space have been numerous. I have, on a less serious note, also accidentally walked into very unpleasant or uncomfortable spaces that, put quite simply, were impossibly irrational, and no where I would want to be again. I also have a strong sense that one could go far enough out into this immaterial space that they become lost and unable to return. It is, however, where I share dream spaces with my deities (when they do not wish to meet with me in my inner spaces), as well as my ancestors and passed on loved ones.

Learning and recognizing the different places in the dream space can be a bit overwhelming at first, but it has greatly helped me recognize and make sense of the information I am being given in my dreams. As someone who has dreams almost nightly, I don't know if it's possible to express just how much relief and peace of mind this has brought me, especially considering how odd they can be at times!

Do you have any shared dream spaces, or any spaces you have recognized to be your own Self centers or reflections of the physical world? I'd love to hear about them!

Affirmation:

My Higher Self is my guide.
